Virgin, Tata TeleServices to Form Mobile Communications JV

According to the Indian Economic Times, UK-based MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operator) Virgin and Tata TeleServices, the telecom arm of the Tata Group, are preparing to set up a non-MVNO joint venture equally owned by the two companies, slated to be operational within 2007. Under this joint venture, Virgin will act as an agent of Tata, which will be entitled to launch Virgin-branded mobile services based on its own CDMA2000 1x network. Comments from both companies on the reported tie-up are not available yet.
